Despite major efforts to eradicate the virus, rabies remains a major concern worldwide, killing more than 55,000 people every year. In the United States, more than 6,000 rabid animals, as well as 6 human cases of rabies, were reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control in 2011. In this podcast, Dr. Lynne White-Shim, assistant director of the AVMA’s Scientific Activities Division, talks about rabies and World Rabies Day.
