FeLV is a virus that infects your cat via saliva or nasal discharge. This virus can wreak havoc on the body, resulting in many different types of diseases like leukemia, lymphoma, anemia, and leave them susceptible to other infectious diseases. FIV, on the other hand, is the feline immunodeficiency virus. It is most commonly described as the feline version of HIV. FIV disrupts a cat’s immune system to respond properly, leaving them very susceptible to other infections and potentially turning what would be a few germs that are easily fought off into destructive pathogens.
Both FeLV and and FIV can be managed; cats who have these diseases still deserve happy, loving homes! The first step to managing or preventing the spread of these viruses is to test your cats. Give us a call at 216-749-7161 to schedule your cat’s appointment and receive $5 off all FeLV/FIV tests during September!
