Cats are America’s #1 pet, but they may not be getting the veterinary care they need.Compared to dogs, nearly THREE times as many cats did not receive any veterinary care in the past year. Here are some tips to get your cat used to their carrier for a less stressful experience:

1. Leave the carrier out where your cat spends a lot of their time, and let them see and smell the carrier

2. Leave the door open and put a favorite blanket, toy, or treat inside to encourage your cat to investigate the carrier

3. You can place treats outside the carrier, and move the treats closer and closer each day

5. When your cat is comfortable going into the carrier by themself, you can try closing the door for small amounts of time

6. When your cat has become used to the door being closed, you can begin lifting the carrier with the cat in it, and walking a few steps before putting it back down. Do a little more each day

7. Ask your pet’s veterinarian if there are calming medications or products to help reduce anxiety for travel or their visit
